Using pet therapy dogs in airports started in San Jose. There is a whole team of volunteers who bring their canine pets to greet passengers in this airport. If you see one, then be sure to say hello. Their handlers are also trained to answer any questions that you may have when you visit this airport.

Children will love burning off all their pent-up energy at the iPal Playground in Terminal B. There they will find a delightful robot called AvatarMind who is a blast to interact with along with a maze and other activities. This area also has extremely comfortable chairs for adults who need to take a break.

You can usually get through security here extremely quickly. Nevertheless, make sure that you leave plenty of time so that you do not miss your flight.

What You Will Hate About the San Jose Airport

If you find yourself stuck at this airport late at night, there are absolutely no 24-hour food and drink options. There is not even a public vending machine. Your best bet is to become friendly with an airport employee because they do have vending machines in the back for their use. The good news is that the ones hidden from the public are very reasonably priced.

The small size of this airport means that it misses many of the features of a larger airport. Make sure that you bring your own entertainment with you.

Many people do not like the music played at the San Jose Airport. They play Top 40s music without any words. Musicians may find, however, that the tempo is extremely slow compared to the way that these songs are normally played.

Fun Things to Do at the San Jose Airport

If you are a piano player, then feel free to play a tune on this airport's piano located in Terminal A. Many people have had fun playing on it while their friends have taken a video which they then upload to social media.

If you need to practice mindful breathing or just want a quiet place to ponder your own thoughts, then check out the Meditation Room. This small room in Terminal B is an outstanding place to read or ponder the deeper questions of the world.

History of the San Jose Airport

This airport near downtown San Jose, California, was originally a flight school opening in 1945. The name was changed to pay tribute to Norman Y. Mineta in 2001. Mr. Mineta had served as San Jose's mayor, as a Congressman, as the United States Secretary of Commerce and as the United States Secretary of Transportation. Almost 50 percent of all flights from this airport are operated by Southwest Airlines.
